3rd place finish at PGF Nationals
Panthers Gold finish 3rd at PGF after a 1-0 loss
Amber Tovan was the only player with multiple hits against Landry, going 2 for 3 for the Panthers, who had only five other base runners the entire game. Dee Dee Hernandez threw six innings and gave up six hits to take the loss.
“This is tough,” Panthers Gold coach Yvette Hernandez said. “Both teams played a great game. I know that in a close game, it would come down to an error or a bad call and it came down to that.”
After going 4-0 en route to the semifinals, the run ends for Panthers Gold.
Panthers Gold 1, Ohana Tigers Sanchez 0 (9 innings)
Ohana Tigers ace Lauren Narvaez threw a no-hitter and still lost as Panthers Gold scored in ITB in the bottom of the ninth to advance in the winner’s bracket. Justine Bergara knocked in the winning run, scoring Gizella Vargas who got on base on an error. Desiree Hernandez allowed one hit and recorded 12 strikeouts to get the shutout for Panthers Gold.
“At the end of the day, I think both pitchers threw a heck of a game,” Panthers Gold coach Yvette Hernandez said. “I think at the end of the day, I gotta say that luck plays a factor and it really came down to who was going to make the error, either pitching or defensively. It took one pitch to make a play happen. It kind of just fell on our side to have that luck to go ahead and push that run to win that game.”
Narvaez struck out 13 on one walk, while Alyssa Vasquez got the lone hit in the first inning for Ohana Tigers.
